BigBiz: Web Design Tips: Icons

Graphical icons add to the looks of your web pages. Included here are some icon collections that you may use (this page shows a few). These collections were copied from their respective sources off the internet and placed on the BigBiz server for your convienience. If you do decide to incorporate any of these icons into your web pages, make sure you read the associated copyright information. Copy the image files you want into your own directory.

The following collections are available for your use

Anthony's WWW Images

This is a good collection of high quality icons, arrows, lines, buttons, etc... A unique entry for icons that can be put end-to-end to build more complex graphics (example: the Box DIY pieces from the Miscellaneous Icons).
You can download the entire collection (as a gzip/tar file): WWW_Images.tar.gz.
On the BigBiz server, the local directory for this icon collection is /usr/local/apache/htdocs/bigbiz/icons/images.

Sample Icons / Stanford

A collection of WWW icons from various places on the web, notably Stanford University.
You can download the entire collection (as a gzip/tar file): stanford.tar.gz.
On the BigBiz server, the local directory for this icon collection is /usr/local/apache/htdocs/bigbiz/icons/stanford.

Hobbes Icon Collection

Over 3000 icons, mostly 32x32 16 color. These icons come from the PC world, Windows and OS/2 mostly.
You can download the entire collection (as a gzip/tar file): hobbes.tar.gz.
On the BigBiz server, the local directory for this icon collection is /usr/local/apache/htdocs/bigbiz/icons/hobbes.

Ultimate Icon Collection

Approx 900 high quality color icons, mostly 256 color, 32x32 (the author mistakenly says 64x64). These icons come from the Macintosh world. The original URL is at http://infosoc.informatik.uni-bremen.de/vr/Icons.html.
You can download the entire collection (as a gzip/tar file): ultimate.tar.gz.
On the BigBiz server, the local directory for this icon collection is /usr/local/apache/htdocs/bigbiz/icons/ultimate.

Standard Directory Icons

These are the public-domain icons that are used by the webserver when it displays a directory. You can use these directly on the BigBiz server with a tag like
<IMG SRC=/icons/image_name.gif>.
The actual directory where these images reside is /usr/local/apache/icons.
