7/26/2001 - telnet access to servers restricted

A vulmerability has been discovered in the telnet program which can allow hackers to gain access to the servers. For your protection we have restricted telnet access to the servers. For additional information about the vulerability see http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2001-21.html

We are recommending all users needing terminal access to their servers to use secure shell (ssh) instead of telnet. Secure shell also makes it impossible for hackers to eavesdrop on your session to steal passwords, etc...

All our servers are compatible with secure shell, versions 1 and 2. The following are links to secure shell client software you can use as an alternative to telnet:

PC/Windows: use putty.exe http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty Macintosh: use niftytelnet/ssh or MacSSH http://www.lysator.liu.se/~jonasw/freeware/niftyssh/ http://www.macssh.com Unix: use ssh or openssh http://www.openssh.com/ http://www.ssh.com/
